Phantoms at Salvation Army today

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Phantoms will assist in the Salvation Army’s effort to feed the Mahoning Valley’s less fortunate today.

Phantoms players and team mascot Sparky will be at the Salvation Army location at 1501 Glenwood Ave. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to provide Thanksgiving dinners to local residents.

“We’re fortunate to be home for the holidays this year,” said Phantoms director of community relations Kelly Carroll. “We all know how important it is to celebrate Thanksgiving, so this is an opportunity to help give back to the community and at the same time enjoy Thanksgiving with those who otherwise wouldn’t get to have it.”

The Salvation Army, founded in 1865, has a presence in 116 countries around the globe and continues on its mission to assist those who are homeless, abused or disadvantaged. For additional information on the Salvation Army, both worldwide and in the local area, visitsalvationarmy.org.

Youngstown begins a five-game homestand Friday with a 7:15 p.m. opening faceoff against the Lincoln Stars at the Covelli Centre. It’s Bald Is Beautiful Night, with bald people getting in for half-price and $3 from every ticket purchased at local Casal’s Salons going to Wigs For Kids.

Celebrate Hockey Holidays with the Phantoms during Saturday’s contest, also at 7:15 p.m. against Lincoln. Santa Claus will be in the house and on his skates, and make ornaments with Phantoms players after the game.
