Brick sale nears end

CANFIELD — The Ursuline Center in Canfield will end its brick sale fundraiser on Jan. 1. Until then, the bricks will be sold for $20 each to raise funds for renovations to the swimming pool.

To date more than $10,000 has been raised from the sale of the commemorative bricks.

D.A.R. to collect articles for veterans

CANFIELD — Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mahoning Chapter, are asked to take CDs and white socks for veterans to the Dec. 14 meeting at A La Cart Catering. Sgt. Jim Conrad will speak on safety tips for women.

At the Nov. 9 meeting Dr. Anita Gorman spoke on Jane Austen, Peggy Oberholtzer gave the President General’s address, and the national defense report was presented by Joann Cook.

Recognized at the meeting was Nancy Finley, who has given American flags to new citizens for the past 20 years.

Cermonies for children planned in Ohio, Pa.

Compassionate Friends, a Pennsylvania/Ohio support group, invites area residents to participate in its annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 in honor of children who died.

Ceremonies are planned in Austintown and in Sharpsville, Pa.

In Austintown, the event will take place at First Free Will Baptist Church, 5530 New Road.

In Sharpsville, Members of the Mercer County Chapter of Compassionate Friends invites bereaved families to its ceremony, part of a special service at Sharpsville First United Methodist Church, 148 E. Shenango St.
