Teddy Kennedy’s widow to be on Oprah’s show

NEW YORK — Another interview coup for Oprah Winfrey: Vicki Kennedy, wife of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.

In her first interview since her husband’s death, Vicki Kennedy will appear on Winfrey’s television talk show Wednesday, along with her stepson, Ted Kennedy Jr., and her two children from a previous marriage, Caroline and Curran. Sen. Kennedy died in August at age 77, just weeks before the release of his memoir, “True Compass.”

Ohio police chief guilty of 3 felonies in case

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — An eastern Ohio police chief has been acquitted of burglary charges but convicted of three other felonies in an alleged break-in at the home of a woman who carried twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

A jury Monday found suspended Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted on charges of burglary and unauthorized used of property or services.

Prosecutors say Carpenter broke into Michelle Ross’ home in May, and that he and the police chef of a neighboring town tried to peddle items related to her pregnancy and surrogacy to celebrity photographers.

Carpenter had testified that he went into the home to check it out because he saw a door open.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Jon Gosselin offered his estranged wife a bouquet of red roses at their divorce arbitration hearing over the weekend. She evidently turned them down. Despite the snub, the marathon session went so well that the feuding stars of “Jon & Kate Plus Eight” could be divorced by the end of the year, his attorney said Monday.

“Although there were many emotional moments throughout the process, Jon impressively put the best interests of his children above all and was extremely appropriate in his approach to the mediation,” Mark Heller said.

Heller declined to comment on the terms of the divorce.
