Ex-Springfield PTO treasurer charged with theft

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The former treasurer of the Springfield Local School District PTO has been charged with taking at least $10,000 from the organization during her tenure.

Cheryl Blakeman, 37, of Columbiana Road NW, is charged with theft. New Middletown Police Chief Vincent D'Egidio said the charge was filed Monday. Blakeman is scheduled to appear Nov. 30 in Struthers Municipal Court.

The chief said the amount she's accused of taking is a "conservative estimate" of between $10,000 and $20,000.
