Jon Heacock resigns as YSU football coach

YOUNGSTOWN — Jon Heacock has resigned as the football coach at Youngstown State University.

The announcement came early Sunday evening, about 24 hours after the Penguins defeated North Dakota State, 39-35, to conclude a 6-5 season.

Heacock was 60-44 in his nine seasons at YSU after replacing Jim Tressel.

YSU athletic director Ron Strollo will hold a press conference on Monday.
