YOUNGSTOWN — A 20-year-old city man is facing multiple charges after police say he shot his live-in girlfriend in the stomach during an argument.
Wallace Lewis, 20, of 175 E. Ravenwood Ave., appeared via video-arraignment Wednesday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of attempted- aggravated murder, illegal possession of a weapon, probation violations and theft. He pleaded innocent to the charges.
Prosecutors told the court Lewis has a criminal history that includes a previous domestic- violence charge. Judge Kobly set bond at $500,000.
Lewis is due back in court Nov. 25 for a preliminary hearing before the judge.
Officers were sent to the Ravenwood address just after 11 a.m. Monday to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived at the South Side home, a group of people standing outside the house began yelling that a man living at the house, later determined to be Lewis, had shot his girlfriend and was hiding inside the house.
Officers learned that the man had jumped out of a rear window and escaped through backyards adjacent to the home.
A relative of the shooting victim’s told police the victim, a 29-year-old female, and Lewis began arguing in the living room of the house after the woman told Lewis he had to move out. The argument turned physical, and Lewis pulled out “a few guns,” ultimately shooting the woman.
Police found a revolver and a sawed-off shotgun inside the house.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. She remains hospitalized in a drug-induced coma.
