Police calls in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty


A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Nov. 14

Menacing: A South Randolph Street woman reported her boyfriend became jealous and threatened to harm her.

Arrest: A Girard man was charged with disorderly conduct after officers got a report of someone begging for money inside an East Liberty Street store.

Nov. 15

Criminal mischief: A rock was used to break a double-pane window in the 40 block of West Liberty Street.

Criminal mischief: A BB or pellet was used to cause an estimated $7,000 worth of damage to a double-pane picture window at a home in the 500 block of Forsythe Avenue.

Theft/forgery: A Woodland Avenue man accused his grandson of stealing five checks, signing three and cashing them for a total of $700.

Nov. 16

Possible theft: A North Avenue man discovered a .22-caliber revolver missing.

HUBBARD

Nov. 12

Theft: A wallet was removed from a car on Myron Street.

Theft: A male, no information given, was charged during a shoplifting situation at Devine’s Shop ‘n’ Save, 529 N. Main St.

Nov. 13

Menacing: An official with Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., reported finding an item in a gym locker room, though the report didn’t specify what it was.

Theft: Two hitching posts were stolen in the 800 block of North Main Street.

Theft: The driver of a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo left a Shell True North station, 204 W. Liberty St., without paying for gasoline.

Burglary: A Mackey Street woman told police a neighbor’s laptop computer was stolen, apparently in a break-in.

Nov. 14

Assault: Officers received a report of a man who had been assaulted in the 2100 block of West Liberty Street.

Criminal mischief: Four juveniles were released to the custody of their parents after police said they saw the four smashing pumpkins in a driveway in the 600 block of Meadowland Drive.

Assault: Two males reported having been assaulted in the 500 block of West Liberty Street.

Nov. 16

Menacing: A Mackey Street man reported another man threatened him.

LIBERTY

Nov. 12

Theft: Two 25-year-old Youngstown women were detained after $60 worth of merchandise was stolen from Wal-Mart, 200 Goldie Road. No charges, however, had been filed at the time of the report.

Drugs: Authorities investigated a report that suspected marijuana wrapped in plastic had been recovered from a 17-year-old newly admitted patient to Belmont Pines Hospital, 615 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The teen said he got the suspected marijuana from a family member, a report showed.

Identity fraud: An Academy Drive woman reported receiving an online collection notice for a $129 charge she never made.

Burglary: A Roosevelt Drive woman discovered someone had entered her home and took a $2,800 wedding ring and $120.

Theft: A woman’s purse was removed from a shopping cart at a Belmont Avenue store.

Weapon: After getting a report of someone passing a handgun to another person near a school, officers charged two Youngstown boys, 16 and 17, with possession of a weapon on school property, a fourth-degree felony, and misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing and obstructing official business; another 17-year-old Youngstown boy was charged with criminal trespassing. A semiautomatic pistol with six rounds was found, a report said.

Menacing: A teacher providing home instruction to an Oriel-Rogers Road boy said he pulled out and opened a switchblade knife.

Nov. 13

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown woman alleged that a worker for a Belmont Avenue gas station threatened to kill her after another employee had offered her a free cup of coffee.

Burglary: A man returned to his home in the 6700 block of Sodom-Hutchings Road, found several drawers open and discovered medications and jewelry missing, for an estimated loss of $1,355.

Nov. 14

Drugs/weapon: A traffic stop on Fifth Avenue led to the arrests of two Youngstown men, 24 and 49, when, police said, a loaded 9 mm handgun, a bag with six individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana and a suspected crack pipe were found. The younger man’s charges were carrying a concealed weapon, being a convicted felon with a firearm and drug abuse; the other man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Theft: A 33-year-old woman and a man, 56, both of Youngstown, were accused of, but had not been charged with, stealing a vacuum cleaner, a card table and five DVDs from Wal-Mart.

Nov. 15

Burglary: To a residence in the 2600 block of Tibbetts-Wick road via a rear door, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen were $500 and two pieces of jewelry totaling $11,000.

Theft: A man in his 30s took two packages of undergarments from Dollar General, 3551 Belmont Ave.

Nov. 16

Theft by deception: Youngstown police handed a 46-year-old Struthers man wanted on a felony charge to Liberty authorities. He was taken to the Trumbull County Jail to await arraignment in Girard Municipal Court.

Theft: Two people were detained after 25 compact discs were stolen from Wal-Mart, Neither had been charged at the time of the report.
