Ohioans can feast on low turkey prices

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio grocers are taking a carving knife to turkey prices in hopes of luring Thanksgiving shoppers.

Walmart Stores Inc. started the feathers flying among the state’s retailers Nov. 4 when it announced it would sell the holiday bird for as little as 40 cents per pound.

Now, Kroger and Giant Eagle supermarkets in central Ohio are offering frozen turkeys priced as low as 29 cents a pound, with a $30 purchase. Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle also says its stores throughout Ohio will match any lower price for turkey.

An American Farm Bureau federation survey predicted consumers nationwide would pay an average of about $1.16 per pound for an 18-pound turkey this Thanksgiving, down 3 cents a pound from last year.
