Police calls in Boardman
A summary of recent criminal activity in Boardman:
Nov. 13
Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s rear window sustained $200 worth of damage in the 6200 block of Market Street.
Bad check: A $1,269 check was used to buy furniture from a Karago Avenue store. The check was later determined to have had a “stop payment” attached.
Theft: A briefcase, a checkbook and loose change were taken from a vehicle in the 100 block of Jeanette Drive.
Arrest: Authorities got a tip about a wanted person and picked up a 20-year-old Austintown man in the 7400 block of Market Street. He was wanted on charges of obstructing official business, falsification and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fraud: An elderly South Cadillac Drive woman told police a man claiming to be her grandson had been in a car accident and asked her to wire $2,700 to someone in Quebec.
Theft: A Youngstown woman, 21, faced a felony charge and was taken to the Mahoning County jail after $565 worth of electronics was stolen from Toys ‘R’ Us, 317 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A 21-year-old Youngstown woman was charged, accused in the theft of balloons, batteries and other items from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Assault: A 16-year-old Youngstown boy was charged after officers responded to a fight at the Southern Park Mall, where a girl alleged he struck her several times in the hack and neck. She complained of soreness to the affected areas.
Arrest: A Youngstown woman, 22, was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road. She was wanted on a probation-violation count.
Assault: A township woman suffered several injuries after reporting she had been grabbed and pushed in the chest, causing her to strike her head on a wall.
Nov. 14
Burglary: Someone entered a garage in the 8000 block of Hunting Valley Drive and stole a wristwatch and two necklaces from a vehicle.
Theft by deception: Police talked to an elderly 90-year-old woman at a Boardman-Poland Road store who was wiring money and were told that a man had apparently been asking her to send him money in exchange for a car or cash.
Theft: More than $63 worth of merchandise was removed from a car in the 6300 block of South Avenue.
Theft: A 17-year-old city boy faced charges of theft and vandalism after 10 DVDs had been stolen from Wal-Mart. He also broke a door handle while trying to escape from an office after being detained, a report said.
Theft: A Struthers woman, 40, was charged with stealing Christmas lights from Wal-Mart.
Assault/theft: A Lakeland, Fla., woman staying at a township motel alleged a male friend threw her into a bed frame, struck her several times in the head and neck and took her cell phone and two checkbooks.
Menacing: A Boardman woman told police her boyfriend received threatening text messages regarding child-support payments.
Auto theft: A 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was stolen in the 500 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.
Vehicle theft: Someone stole a 1994 GMC Jimmy vehicle in the 4000 block of Hillman Way.
Nov. 15
Drug paraphernalia: Two township men, 19 and 21, stopped by police on U.S. Route 224 were charged with each having a suspected marijuana pipe.
Criminal damaging: A car’s rear windshield was smashed in the 7300 block of Westview Drive.
Burglary: A $2,500 furnace was stolen from a vacant home someone had entered in the 10 block of Beechwood Drive.
Theft: A Boardman man, 26, faced charges of theft and child endangering after a curling iron and cologne had been stolen from Sears in the Southern Park Mall. The man fled the store, leaving his 8-year-old son behind, police said.
Nov. 16
Assault: A Leetonia woman alleged her former boyfriend punched her in the mouth at a Hunters Cove Drive home.
Theft: A girl stole $58 worth of clothing from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: Two Boardman residents were accused in, but not charged with, stealing $29.48 worth of baby clothing from Wal-Mart.
Theft: A worker for Eagle Rental Inc., 6132 Market St., reported a 23-year-old Boardman resident stopped making payments on a rented bedroom set.
Theft: A wallet, two books of compact discs, three baseball caps and a polo shirt were removed from a car in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road.
Assault: A 17-year-old boy told police he had been punched in the face while on Teakwood Drive. He had an injury to his left eye.
Attempted theft: Two females fled in a vehicle after having tried to steal clothing from Gabriel Bros.
Theft: A $1,000 digital camera was stolen from a studio at Sears.
Nov. 17
Auto theft: A South Avenue woman reported the theft of her 1997 Pontiac Sunfire.
