Layshock returning as Newton Falls mayor
WARREN — Pat Layshock is likely to be back in his seat as mayor of Newton Falls when city council meets at 6 p.m. today, following a decision by the 11th District Court of Appeals that says Layshock should have been allowed to rescind his resignation in July.
The city, however, has notified the appeals court that it is likely to appeal the decision to the Ohio Supreme Court.
It has also asked the court for a stay of execution, meaning it is asking that Layshock not be allowed back as mayor pending the outcome of the appeal.
Atty. Michael Rossi, who represents Layshock, said he “very seriously doubts” the court will take that action.
The appeals court ruled Nov. 10, about four months after Layshock announced at the July 6 Newton Falls City Council meeting that he was resigning effective Aug. 1.
Layshock left the meeting and didn’t return.
Layshock changed his mind, however, and two days later he rescinded the resignation the afternoon before city council met in an emergency session and accepted the resignation.
