Car runs into Niles church

NILES — A car driven by a woman struck the side of Praise Assembly of God Church at 1004 N. Main St. on Sunday morning.

No one was hurt, but the woman was transported to a hospital, a fire department spokesman said. He did not have the woman’s name or where she was taken.

Police could not be reached Sunday for more details.

The fire department said there weren’t many people at the church when the accident happened around 11 a.m.

The woman told firefighters she wasn’t sure what happened.

The building is badly damaged, the fire department said.

Man arrested in drug raid

WARREN — A man who was arrested during a drug raid at his home on Douglas Street will be arraigned today.

Leonard Rounds, 33, is in the Trumbull County Jail after the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force executed a search warrant at his home at 4 p.m. Friday, said Jeff Orr, TAG commander.

Police found 15 ounces, or $30,000 worth, of powder cocaine at the house, Orr said.

Police also found drug paraphernalia and a handgun, Orr said.

Family Dollar robbed

YOUNGSTOWN — A robber got away with an undisclosed amount of money at the Family Dollar on Glenwood Avenue on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The robbery happened around 5 p.m. It wasn’t clear if the robber had a gun, police said.

A complete report wasn’t available Sunday night.

Relay for Life kickoff

AUSTINTOWN — Anyone interested in the 2010 Austintown Relay for Life is invited to attend the kickoff rally at 6 p.m. Thursday at Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road.

All current teams, new teams or anyone else interested in participating are asked to attend to learn more about next year’s Relay for Life, which is scheduled for June 2010.

The ROCcK Children’s Choir, a choral group of cancer survivors and family members, will perform at the rally, and refreshments will be provided. ROCcK stands for Raising Our Commitment to cancer Kids.
