Cinderella Ball will be an enchanting evening


YOUNGSTOWN — The Junior Civic League of Youngstown will host its 54th annual Cinderella Ball beginning at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.

“An Intriguing Evening: Filling the Glass Slipper” has been chosen as the theme for the enchanting evening, at which 12 young women will make their debut and one will be chosen to reign as Miss Cinderella 2009.

Admission to the fundraiser is $40 per person, and proceeds will provide scholarships for high school graduates in the Youngstown area. To date, more than $450,000 in scholarships have been awarded area students.

Competing for the title of Miss Cinderella 2009 at the ball will be the following debutantes from various area high schools: Terika Callier and Docylyne Shelton, Austintown Fitch; Sha ’Kela Clark, East; Kourtney Douglas and Kymberly Vidale, Ursuline; Jacinta Figueroa, Donnisha Harris, Sharayontre Jarmon, and Risha Lester, Chaney; Amber Hawkins, Struthers; Janae’ Mayes, Boardman; and Niya Merriweather, Youngstown Early College.

The Junior Civic League is one of Youngstown’s oldest and most prestigious black women’s organizations. It is dedicated to volunteerism and community service, and is committed to igniting community interest in health, education and civic affairs, and to promoting a better understanding of all issues that will better the community.

In addition to the ball, the League sponsors an annual scholarship and installation brunch, participates in the Youngstown City School District’s Adopt-A-School Program, hosts a political candidates forum and sponsors an annual children’s Christmas event.
