Checks celebrate 60th anniversary with close family

AUSTINTOWN — At a private dinner in their Austintown home, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Check celebrated the 60th anniversary of their wedding on Nov. 5.

The intimate family gathering included the couple’s children, Gloria (Bob) Franklin of Hamilton, Ohio; Cathy (Steve) Garstka of Austintown; and Brenda (Dan) Rose of Poland. The Checks also have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Daughters Cathy and Brenda served as hostesses for the party.

The Checks own and operate Check’s Upholstery, where Mrs. Check worked as a secretary.

In addition to running his own business, Mr. Check had worked for U.S. Steel Co. before retiring from there in 1976. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Check had served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. and Mrs. Check are charter members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and belong to its Senior Citizens Club.

Mr. Check and the former Jeanette Zvara were married at St. Brendan Church in Youngstown on Nov. 5, 1949.
