‘Beauty and the Beast’ at New Castle theater
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will open Friday at New Castle Playhouse, 212 E. Long Ave., and will run for 10 performances: Friday and Saturday, and Nov. 22, 27, 28, 29 and Dec. 4, 5 and 6. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. There will be an additional Saturday matinee Dec. 5.
The musical is directed by Ellwood City’s Rick Hudson.

Boardman dramatists to stage ‘Spelling Bee’
BOARDMAN — The Boardman Drama Guild will stage the Tony Award-winning musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave., at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Nov. 22.
“Spelling Bee” is directed by David Mullane, with musical direction by Errol Kehrberg and Michael Moritz, and choreography by Nick Opritza.
The Drama Guild is presenting the original Broadway version, although the lyrics to one song have been altered to make it less racy, said Mullane.
Tickets are $5 for students age 18 and younger, $7 for senior citizens and $10 for adults, and can be purchased online at boardmandramaguild.com or by calling (330) 519-2633.
Talent show scheduled at Penn State-Shenango
SHARON, Pa. — Penn State Shenango Drama Club will have a talent show at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the campus auditorium on Shenango Avenue, downtown.
Students and faculty from the campus — plus The Inevitable, a rock band from Sharpsville High School — will perform.
Faculty performers include Missa Eaton and Ed Hallahan, Jeanne Zingale, advisor to the Drama Club and theater instructor, will be the emcee and also will sing.
Two students will present original compositions: Douglas Lindey and Ben DeRaps.
Other student performers include Nicole Cadman and Becky Maurice, Chris Grant and Ben Cadman.
The members of The Inevitable are Jacob Chrastina, Justin Donatelli, Jacob Grimm and Dylan Vamosi.

Talent scout to visit Ruth’s Robics students
BOARDMAN — Peter Sklar, a New York City talent scout, will visit Ruth’s Robics and Dance Company on Saturday to give a motivational talk to the dance students.
He also will interview several students.
Sklar, a speaker for children age 6 to 18, is also the producer of the upcoming Broadway musical “The Kid Who Played the Palace.”
