Western Pa. trooper brutality case settled

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh man and state trooper accused of roughing him up and breaking his ankle have settled the man’s civil rights lawsuit.

Twenty-eight-year-old Christopher Strothers claims Trooper Samuel Nassan assaulted him outside Pittsburgh bar in July 2008. Strothers claims city police were breaking up a fight between Strothers and a woman when Nassan intervened, handcuffed him and threw him down.

Strothers’ lawyer says settlement terms reached last week are confidential.

Nassan fatally shot an unarmed 12-year-old Uniontown boy in 2002. That lawsuit was settled for $12.5 million.

Nassan is also being sued by the family of a Pittsburgh motorist he fatally shot in March during a drunken driving patrol.
