Pa. youth coach sentenced for inappropriately touching player

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A former youth baseball coach from Pennsylvania will spend at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted sexual assault of one of his players.

Daniel R. Schaefer, 44, was sentenced to six to 15 years in prison Thursday in Northampton County. Schaefer pleaded guilty in July to charges of attempted aggravated indecent assault and corruption of a minor.

Prosecutors say Schaefer touched the 14-year-old victim while doing what he called “warm-up exercises” in his Bethlehem Township home for six months in 2008.

Schaefer was the vice president of the Lehigh Valley Junior Legion Baseball League at the time of the investigation and had served as a coach at nearby schools.

Schaefer must register as a sex offender for 10 years upon his release.
