Judge won't move Ohio triple murder case

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — For now at least, an Ohio judge is refusing to move the trial of a man accused of killing his two young children and former mother-in-law.

Attorneys for 35-year-old James Mammone III had argued that a fair trial in his hometown of Canton would be impossible because of extensive media coverage and public talk about the case.

Judge John Haas of Stark County Common Pleas Court on Thursday denied the request to send the trial to a different county but said the defense may ask again closer to Mammone’s January trial date.

Prosecutors say the usual jury selection process is the only way to find out if publicity has led people in the community to form opinions.

Mammone has pleaded not guilty to the killings.
