HIV/AIDS fundraiser to help kids

YOUNGSTOWN — “Jazzy Blues and City Views,” a fundraiser for children’s programming of the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry, will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday in the main concourse of the Ohio One Building downtown.

The event will include a dinner catered by Chrystal’s, beer and wine, jazz music performances and an auction of vacation packages, Youngstown-area entertainment packages, artworks by local artists and other items.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the door.

Ministry Associate Director Brigid Kennedy said organizers hope to raise $30,000 at the weekend event.

The ministry provides counseling, tutoring, mentoring, medical care, instruction on preventive health practices and some recreational activities for children with HIV/AIDs and those with HIV- infected family members.

Kennedy said about 60 Mahoning Valley children are part of the program, and the clinic continues to see a 10 percent to 20 percent growth rate each year.

Those who cannot attend the fundraiser but would like to contribute may send donations to the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield 44406.
