Wrap the Arts event

YOUNGSTOWN — Art Youngstown’s Wrap the Arts project — an outdoor display of more than three dozen 6-by-8-foot paintings — was installed as an urban beautification project last month in an empty lot at 1226 Wick Ave. on the North Side.

The participating artists will be present at a reception at 7:30 p.m. Monday at The Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal Plaza, downtown. For admission, attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The event will include a slide show of art.

Hoyt to celebrate craft beer at event

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., will open its galleries at 7 p.m. Saturday for its third annual Brew-Fest, an exhibition of regional craft beers.

Seven breweries — Church Brew Works, East End Brewing and Penn Brewing (all of Pittsburgh); Erie Brewing Co. (Erie, Pa.); Great Lakes and Rock Bottom Brewery (both of Cleveland) and Wolaver’s Brewery (Vermont) — will be represented, offering two dozen samples. A buffet of roast-pork sliders, stuffed cabbage, pierogies, loaded potatoes and assorted desserts is included. Entertainment will be provided by musician Steve Cohagan at 7 p.m. and comedian David Michaels at 8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the museum. Tickets are $35 ($25 for Hoyt members); membership may be added on at the time of sale to receive the discount. For more information, call (724) 652-2882.

Family Variety Night seeks entertainers

YOUNGSTOWN — U.N. Act production company will have a Family Variety Night at 6 p.m. Sunday at The Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal St. The event is open to all entertainers who want to participate, including actors, singers, dancers and any other skill. Civil War weaponry

WARREN — Donald Van Meter of North Jackson will speak on “Civil War Arms and Artifacts” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sutliff Museum. Van Meter, a Civil War re-enactor and a former antiques dealer, will discuss the weapons and equipment soldiers took to the battlefields. The program will include a question-and-answer period during which attendees can ask Van Meter about their collectible items.

The museum is on the second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. The building will open at 10 a.m. for coffee and pastries. Call (330) 392-3296 for information.

‘Who Done It’ production

CHAMPION — Champion High School will present Eileen Moushey’s “The Great High School ‘Who Done It!’” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the school auditorium, 5759 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Tickets are $5 ($3 for children). New this year is an intermission dessert buffet prepared by the Champion High School Key Club for $2. Admission and dessert tickets will be available at the door.
