Trumbull 4-H elects advisory committee


CORTLAND — The Trumbull County 4-H program had its annual election of 4-H Advisory Committee members in October. The Trumbull County 4-H is guided by the committee, which is made up of elected 4-H volunteers, business and community representatives and youth leaders.

The committee has five three-year terms that are elected every year. Current 4-H volunteers and new volunteers are eligible to run for these positions. The committee also has business/community at-large positions that are elected annually for a one-year term.

Marcie Helberg, Rick Kelley, Ginny Taylor, Keith Thornton and Shirley Walters were elected to three-year terms.

Helberg, of Burghill, is an adviser for the Badger Pork Raisers 4-H Club. An adviser for 12 years, she is a returning member to the advisory committee.

Kelley, of Champion, is an adviser for Shooting Sports Pioneers 4-H Club. An adviser for 11 years, he is also a returning member to the committee.

Taylor, of Champion, has been an adviser for 15 years and advises the Everything Under the Son 4-H Club. She is also returning to the committee.

Thornton, of Cortland, is applying to be an adviser with the Creative Talents 4-H Club. He has been a 4-H parent for at least 8 years and is a new member to the advisory committee.

Walters, of Bristolville, advises the Creative Talents 4-H Club. She has been an adviser for 7 years and is a returning committee member.

Karen Mitchell and Jim Hughes were elected to one-year business/community at-large terms.

Mitchell, of West Farmington, has been a resource leader for 16 years. She was very involved in the 4-H Endowment Committee and is a returning committee member.

Hughes, of Cortland, has been a resource leader for 13 years. He was also very involved in the 4-H Endowment Committee and is returning to the advisory panel.

The advisory committee also had two vacancies to fill. Steve Ayres and Deb Kovac were appointed to fill those two terms.

Ayers, of Warren, is applying to be an adviser with the Creative Talents 4-H Club. He has been a 4-H parent for several years. Kovac, of Cortland, is applying to be an adviser with the East Ohio 4-H Club and has also been a 4-H parent for several years.

Continuing members of the advisory committee are Mel Liddle of Cortland, president; Laura DePizzo of Cortland, secretary; Gayle Jackson of Warren, treasurer; Melissa Chaney of Cortland, Barb Ames of Warren, John Danso of Warrren, Jeff List of Bristolville, and Deb Thornton of Cortland. The advisory committee also has two youth positions, held by Meagan Jackson of Warren and Jenna DePizzo of Cortland.
