MAHONING COUNTY
Boardman: West Boulevard Elementary School, 6125 West Blvd., Salute Our Veterans Luncheon and Program. Luncheon, 10:45 a.m. to noon; third-grade patriotic music program, 12:15 to 12:40 p.m. Veterans are urged to bring their stories to share with students and staff.
North Jackson: Jackson-Milton Veterans Day program, 9 a.m. in the middle school/high school cafetorium. The guest speaker is state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Canfield, D-33rd. Local veterans and their families are invited to attend.
Poland: Woodlands at Hampton Woods, 1525 E. Western Reserve Road. Veterans program at 2 p.m., posting of colors, Korean War Veterans 137.
Youngstown: United Veterans Council of the Mahoning Valley, Veterans Day program, 11 a.m., Mahoning County Courthouse. The main speaker is Robert E. Bush Jr. of the Mahoning County prosecutor’s office. Bush, former Youngstown city police chief and a Vietnam veteran, and Ed Savel, commander of the United Veterans Council, will participate in the placing of the wreath.
Youngstown: Donald Lockett VFW Post 6488 will honor several black servicemen during its Veterans Day program including Thomas D. Poole, killed in action in Vietnam, who has brothers and sisters living in Youngstown. The post’s program is at 11 a.m. at the post home, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road (state Route 616). The main speaker is Navy Rear Admiral Julius S. Caesar, Reserve deputy commander and commander of Navy Installations Command.
Youngstown: American Legion Post 504, 2225 Glenwood Ave., will have a Veterans Day program from 5 to 7 p.m. Guest speaker is U.S. Rep. John Boccieri. Dinner will be served.
TRUMBULL COUNTY
Girard: The Girard Veterans Council will conduct Veterans Day services beginning at 6 p.m. with a parade that will start at the corner of Broadway and Market and proceed to the Girard Viaduct for a wreath service. It will then proceed to the War Memorial in front of City Hall via High and Main streets. Mayor James Melfi will speak at the War Memorial, and the Girard Veterans Council Honor Guard will fire a rifle salute. The Girard Veterans Council consists of VFW Post 419, American Legion Post 235 and Army & Navy Garrison 422.
Howland: Third-graders of Howland schools will perform for a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. at H.C. Mines Intermediate School, 850 Howland-Wilson Road.
Hubbard: Roosevelt Elementary School, 110 Orchard Ave., Veterans Day assembly. 1:45 p.m., for students, military personnel and veterans of any war or conflict.
McDonald: The government classes of McDonald High School will be sponsoring a Veterans Day Assembly and breakfast at 8 a.m. in the high school auditorium. This is open to all village veterans or active members of the military.
Newton Falls: Newton Falls High School Senior Class is hosting its annual Veterans Day assembly at 9 a.m. Veterans will be recognized with stories, poems, dance, videos and gifts.
Warren: Willard K-8 School, 2020 Willard Ave. S.E., will host a flag-raising ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The flag they will raise was sent from Iraq by Spc. E-4 Nathan Allen, Army Military Police. Allen graduated from Trumbull Career & Technical Center and Warren G. Harding High School in 2007. The school will have a representation of students and military personnel in attendance.
COLUMBIANA COUNTY
Salem: Jim Dickens, will speak on “Honoring the Sacrifices of America’s Veterans” at Sterling House Assisted Living’s Veterans Day luncheon starting at 12:30 p.m. He has been the quartermaster of York Drexler Post 5532 since 1988, is on the board of directors for the VFW Ohio Charities and Past Commander VFW State of Ohio.
