MetroPlex center is sold to hospitality group

LIBERTY — MetroPlex Hotel & Conference Center, which has faced financial trouble recently, has been sold.

Aswin Ganapathy Hospitality said Tuesday that it bought the property at 1620 Motor Inn Drive last week. Operators could not be reached but issued a press release that said they are working to secure a hotel franchise.

A deed filed Monday with the Trumbull County recorder’s office said the property was bought from HI Youngstown. A purchase price was not listed, but the document said $3,600 in transfer taxes was paid. That indicates the purchase price was valued at $900,000 based on tax rates.

The MetroPlex used to be a Holiday Inn but lost its franchise in late 2007. In addition, a judge ordered that the hotel be placed in receivership because of debts that were owed.
