HE’S GOT IT: Frank Susor of Boardman took to the tennis courts in Boardman Park to enjoy spring temperatures in November. He and his playing partner Mike Phelps hit a few balls Monday. The high temperature for Sunday and Monday in the Mahoning Valley passed 70 degrees while the Saturday high was 66. The average high for the area for this time of the year is 51 to 52 degrees.

The average high temperature for the rest of the week will be above normal, but nowhere near 70 degrees.

The much-higher-than-normal temperatures the Mahoning Valley has enjoyed these past few days will be replaced by evenings with temperatures dropping to the 30s starting tonight.

The high temperature for Sunday in the Mahoning Valley was 71 degrees, the Saturday high was 66, and the high Monday was 64. The average high for the area for this time of the year is 51 to 52 degrees.

The average high temperature for the rest of the week is going to be greater than normal, but forget about 70 degrees.

“It will be cool, but not cold” during the day this week, said Martin Thompson, a hydrometeorological technician with the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

The high temperature is supposed to be in the upper 50s today, Friday and Saturday, and in the lower 50s on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the weather service’s forecast. The average highs for those days for the area are 49 to 50 degrees.

That’s not bad for the day, but you might want to wear a heavier coat in the evening.

Low temperatures will be, for the most part, higher than average. But what passes for an average low for this time of the year — 34 to 35 degrees — isn’t exactly toasty.

The temperature will drop to the upper 30s tonight, the lower 30s Wednesday, the mid- 30s Thursday, around 40 degrees Friday, and the lower 40s Saturday.

As for a long-range winter forecast for the Valley, the weather service is “leaning toward warmer and drier conditions compared to cooler and wetter conditions,” Thompson said.

“Temperatures should be in our normal range for December, January and February.”

And most importantly, the weather service is expecting “below normal precipitation” for those three months, he said.

The last three winter seasons in the Valley are the top three winters in terms of total snowfall dating back to 1934.

At No. 1 is 2007-08 with 102.8 inches of snow followed by 2006-07 with 90.2 inches and 2008-09 with 86.5 inches.

An average total winter snowfall in the Valley is 54.4 inches, according to weather service statistics.
