Carlisle, Scullion top volleyball honorees

The Hubbard and Salem standouts were selected for Ohio’s first team, and their coaches both also earned honors.

Jackie Carlisle, who will sign a letter of intent to play at Youngstown State on Wednesday, and Ohio State basketball recruit Amy Scullion headline the local players on the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association all-state team.

Carlisle, a 6-foot senior from Hubbard High, and Scullion, a 6-0 senior from Salem, were named first team in Division II.

Hubbard edged Salem in a highly-anticipated regular-season contest, but the Quakers avenged the setback in the district championship match.

Last week, the Quakers were defeated in the regional semifinals by Walsh Jesuit.

Their coaches, Chuck Montgomery of Hubbard and Salem’s Don Conser, received Coaches Achievement Awards.

Also in Div. II, Southeast junior Brittany Woodard was named to the third team, while juniors Elaine Kelley of Lakeview and Dawn Lingenfelter of Hubbard, and Hubbard senior Lexi Starheim were all named honorable mention.

In Div. III, Springfield senior Ashley Davis was named to the third team. Davis helped Springfield to a district championship.

Also in Div. III, Chelsea Guerrieri, a senior, was named honorable mention.

Several area players were selected in Div. IV.

Keeley Chaffee, a 5-8 senior from Lordstown, was named second team, while Jackson-Milton senior Jessica Ripple was selected to the third team.

Selected to the honorable mention list in the small school division were Western Reserve senior Claire Ferrando, Lordstown senior Kaylie Luzadder, Mathews senior Kayla Manz and Jackson-Milton senior Karynn Maskarinec.

In Div. I, Howland junior Nia Grant was named to the honorable mention list.

The all-state teams were selected through a voting process by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
