Body found in Warren; police suspect homicide
WARREN — Police are investigating as a homicide the death of an unidentified man whose partially decomposed, fully clothed body was found by a hunter at 3:47 p.m. Saturday in the woods west of the dead-end of Hamilton Street Southwest. Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, Trumbull County coroner, and city police detectives went to the scene, from which the body was taken to the morgue at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Sgt. Dan Mason said he did not know how long the man had been dead but added, “It’s probably been at least several days.” Mason said he had no information concerning the dead man’s age or what, if any, wounds were on the body.
Recycle those signs
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County recycling division urges recycling of non-reusable, unwanted political signs from the recent election. Signs may be dropped off and stacked against the fence in the back parking area at the county’s South Side Annex, 2801 Market St., during daylight hours through Dec. 1. The signs will be disassembled, and the metal posts, paperboard and plastic will be recycled.
Library exhibit
WARREN — The Sutliff Museum at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is offering a free exhibit, “Edward Sutliff Brainard: From Christening Gown to Army Uniform,” which contains portraits and many artifacts of Brainard’s life and times. The exhibit is open to the public from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Tours may be arranged at other times by calling (330) 399-8807, ext, 121. The exhibit includes suits Brainard wore as a toddler and a teenager and a duster worn for rides in his family’s first automobiles that trace the styles and way of life of a Victorian boy, said Curator Sally Thomas.
Photographs and excerpts from his mother’s diary tell the story of a child who owned his own pony, went away to a prestigious prep school, studied at Columbia University in New York City, enlisted in the Army, served his country doing research during World War I, then died at 22 during the 1918 influenza epidemic.
Dog park meeting
BOARDMAN — A second meeting of people interested in creating a dog park in the township is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at Boardman Government Center, Market Street. Jason Loree is organizing the effort along with his wife, Abbey, and mother, Vicky. The group hopes to raise money for the effort.
