Bishop changes assignments for 2 priests at Diocese of Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., has made a change in assignment for two priests of the Diocese of Youngstown.

Rev. Gerald DeLucia has been appointed administrator of St. Lucy Parish in Campbell, effective Oct. 27. He succeeds Rev. Msgr. John Ashton, who is retiring.

Rev. G. David Weikart has been appointed administrator of St. Mary Parish in Orwell and Sacred Heart Parish in Rock Creek, effective Nov. 27.

Father DeLucia was ordained June 17, 1978, after completing seminary studies at Mt. St. Mary Seminary, Cincinnati.

His previous assignments include: faculty member at Cardinal Mooney High School; associate pastor at St. Paul Parish in Salem; St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown; Holy Family Parish in Poland; St. Nicholas Parish in Struthers; pastor at St. Paul Parish in Salem; Holy Rosary Parish in Lowellville; and St. Rose of Lima in Youngstown (now located in Campbell).

He also served as Pastoral Director at Catholic Television Network of Youngstown and as sacramental priest at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.

Father DeLucia has been a member of the Diocesan Priests’ Council and Diocesan Priests’ Personnel Board, and served as a Diocesan Consultor. He will continue his assignment as administrator of St. Rose of Lima Parish in addition to his new assignment.

Father Weikart was ordained May 31, 2003, after completing seminary studies at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa.

He served as associate pastor at St. Christine Parish in Youngstown and St. Rose Parish in Girard.

He currently serves as pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Lowellville. Father Weikart also served as chaplain of the Serra Club of Mahoning County, an organization which promotes vocations to the priesthood, and was a member of the Diocesan Priests’ Personnel Board.
