March against porn shop Saturday in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN — Members of a faith-based community organization will protest Saturday in front of an adult bookstore on the city’s South Side.
Members of the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhood will march from St. Patrick Church on Oak Hill Avenue at 10 a.m. to the store at Market Street and Cleveland Avenue.
The march is to call attention to South Side residents’ concern about the adult business in their neighborhood.
Bell ringers needed
NEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers.
Help is needed to ring the kettle bells at Shop N Save, IGA and Pamida in Newton Falls starting Nov. 25. Bell ringers are needed each weekend until Christmas. Participants are asked to volunteer for two hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Organizations are welcome to sign up their members to cover an entire day.

Man shot in abdomen during botched robbery
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for five men responsible for shooting a South Side man during a botched robbery attempt.
The 21-year-old Auburndale Avenue man told police he was walking in the 3000 block of Market Street just after 6 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by five men. One of the men, wearing a dark coat and ski mask, asked him, “What you got?”
The man said he tried to avoid the masked man, but the man grabbed him, pointed a small handgun at him and fired one shot. The man said he ran home and realized he had been shot in the abdomen.
He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and was listed in guarded condition late Thursday.
Health seminar on prostate cancer
YOUNGSTOWN — The Men on the Move Auxiliary at Solid Rock Interdenominational Church, 3507 Canfield Road, will host a health seminar on prostate cancer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Guest speaker will be James H. Davis, volunteer coordinator of the Ohio Division of the American Cancer Society.
The theme topic, “Let’s Talk About It,” is open to all men 18 and older.
The workshop fee is $7, which includes a box lunch.

Winter-injury health fair today at Avalon Inn
HOWLAND — More than 200 health-care professionals will attend “The Cold Truth,” the seventh annual trauma and critical-care symposium sponsored by Forum Trumbull Memorial Hospital, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today at the Avalon Inn, 9519 E. Market St.
The continuing medical educational symposium focuses on topics that address most frequently seen winter and cold-weather injuries and medical conditions and subsequent treatment.
A winter-injury and health fair, in conjunction with the symposium, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event is open to the general public and will provide information about winter safety and health.
Exhibitors from the community include the American Red Cross, Ice Zone, Gander Mountain, Wildlife Safety, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Johnny K’s and Ski Chalet.
College, career fair
YOUNGSTOWN — More than 50 colleges, technical institutes and trade schools will participate in a College and Career Fair from 8 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at East High School, 474 Bennington Ave.
All juniors and seniors at East and Chaney high schools and Choffin Career & Technical Center are invited.
The students will be divided into groups, taking turns visiting the gymnasium where the institutions will set up displays and the auditorium where keynote speaker Ako Kambon, founder of Visionary Leaders Institute, will address each group. VLI is an educational institution providing change in the field of urban education.
Trades and career people will discuss program availability with students. Specific schools that provide those programs also will be represented.
