C-130 to be named Sunday in honor of WWII B-24 bomber

VIENNA — The 910th Airlift Wing will name one of its C-130 Hercules cargo transport planes “Tail Wind” in honor of the B-214 Liberator bomber of the same name that was flown on 46 combat missions during World War II.

James Olney, 87 of Canfield, the former Army Air Corps captain who flew the “Tail Wind,” will be joined by family and friends for the ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Sunday. The nose art on the C-130 “Tail Wind” was created by T/Sgt. Scott Obermiyer of Brookfield, a fabrications specialist with the 910th Maintenance Squadron. The nose art reads “Tail Wind” in a cloud-like font based on photos of the original B-24 bomber.
