Voters in state’s sixth-largest district OK levy after sports programs canned

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio school district expects to bring back sports now that voters appear to have approved a funding issue after several rejections.

Unofficial results show the tax issue for the South-Western district outside Columbus passed on Tuesday by about 450 votes.

South-Western, Ohio’s sixth-largest school district, suspended athletics and extracurricular programs after voters in August said no to the third levy in a row.

An operating levy was defeated Tuesday in the Columbus suburb of Reynoldsburg, where school officials had earlier said the consequences could include cuts in student electives and guidance counselors.

But voters in western Ohio’s Greene County OK’d a bond issue to build five new schools in Xenia.
