A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Oct. 31
Auto theft: Police chased the driver of a stolen 2003 Chevrolet Blazer who crashed near Goldie Road before apprehending near Euclid Avenue the man authorities said also led them on a foot pursuit. Charges against him were pending.
Nov. 1
Breaking and entering/possible attempted arson: Someone found that a Mill Street building had been entered before detecting a strong odor of gas. It was possible someone had turned on the gas to try to start a fire, a report said.
Nov. 2
Theft: A Crumlin Avenue woman reported a global-positioning-system device and $20 missing from her vehicle.
Nov. 3
Theft: In two cases, change was missing from vehicles in the 100 block of East Second Street.
Criminal mischief: A car in the 100 block of Second Street was rummaged through.
Theft/damage: A truck window was broken in the 200 block of East Howard Street. Taken was a wallet.
Theft: A cell phone was removed from a car in the 100 block of East Second Street.
Theft: Someone broke into a vehicle in the 100 block of East Second Street and stole a calculator, an MP3 player, school textbooks and a purse, for a total loss of $1,305.
Theft: Someone took a $500 crossbow and scope from a car in the 20 block of Morris Avenue.
Theft: A $1,000 laptop computer and a GPS unit were stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of East Second Street.
HUBBARD
Oct. 29
Theft: A Mock Street woman accused a family member of stealing and cashing her checks.
Nov. 1
Assault: An East Liberty Street man alleged his brother slammed the accuser’s head against a wall.
Auto theft: A Prescott Street woman reported the theft of her 2007 Ford Fusion.
Theft: A bracelet was taken from a car in the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue.
Arrest: A Hubbard man was taken into custody on a warrant from the Hubbard Mayor’s Court charging him with failure to pay his 2004 taxes.
Nov. 2
Criminal mischief: Pumpkins were smashed on a porch in the 200 block of Stewart Avenue.
Bad check: Such a check for more than $100 was passed at Pizza Works, 433 N. Main St.
LIBERTY
Oct. 29
Attempted burglary: A woman in the 4600 block of Logan Way told authorities she heard someone trying to force open her front door. The burglar apparently was scared off when the homeowner screamed, a report said.
Theft: Fifty copper radiators, 10 aluminum radiators and copper wire were removed from Cleveland Auto Wrecking Inc., 2700 Youngstown-Hubbard Road. The loss came to about $2,300.
Theft: Two women stole $20 worth of makeup from Dollar General, 3551 Belmont Ave.
Criminal damaging: All of a vehicle’s tires were slashed in the 100 block of Laurel Street.
Theft: A $500 laptop computer and 12 Pittsburgh Steelers caps were stolen from a residence in the 2000 block of Pleasant Valley Road.
Aggravated menacing: Two First Energy Ohio Edison Co. workers told police the homeowner of a Logan Hills Drive residence became irate and threatened to harm them after one of the employees with a work order tried to shut off the electric meter.
Auto theft: A 1990 Chevrolet vehicle was stolen at a Youngstown-Hubbard Road business.
Misuse of a credit card: An elderly Goldie Road woman found out someone had used her credit card to make three fraudulent purchases totaling $796.
Oct. 30
Theft: A charge was pending against an 18-year-old Youngstown man accused of removing condoms from two boxes at Wal-Mart, 200 Goldie Road.
Theft: A 22-year-old North Jackson woman was accused in, but not charged with, the theft of 27 hygiene and other products from Wal-Mart.
Breaking and entering: Copper wiring was missing from the basement of a home in the 900 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road someone had entered.
Misuse of a credit card: An employee with a Belmont Avenue store discovered someone had illegally used a company-owned gasoline card to buy $922 worth of gas.
Theft: Twenty sets of truck battery cables, 10 radiators and a pair of bolt cutters were stolen from Margala & Sons Inc., 2640 Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Oct. 31
Theft: A Girard man reported the theft of a $500 computer and printer while at a Belmont Avenue store.
Theft: A charge was pending against a 36-year-old Youngstown man accused of leaving Youngstown Crab Co., 3917 Belmont Ave., without paying a $102 food-and-drink bill.
Robbery: A 55-year-old Youngstown man faced a charge after a woman making a withdrawal in a Belmont Avenue bank’s drive-through told police one of two men on bicycles tried to grab her money. The other man, however, was not part of the crime, the woman told officers.
Nov. 1
Assault: Officers responded to a fight in the 200 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road, where one man reported having been struck in the face by the other. He had a cut on his lip and scrapes to his face.
Drugs: A 26-year-old Columbus woman was cited during a traffic stop near Youngstown-Hubbard Road when, police said, two small bags containing a total of 0.5 grams of suspected marijuana were found.
Nov. 2
Theft: A Youngstown man, 48, was charged with stealing $158 worth of items from Dollar General.
Threats: A James Lane man reported having been threatened over the phone.
Assault/damage: An Oakland Avenue man reported three people punched, jumped and struck him, and that one also kicked his door, damaging its frame.
Assault: A resident at a township health-care facility alleged a Youngstown man grabbed her wrists and left shoulder and twisted her right arm, causing minor injuries.
Theft: A charge was pending against a Youngstown woman, 18, after $31 worth of merchandise was stolen from Wal-Mart.
Nov. 3
Menacing: A Shannon Road woman told police she overheard a neighbor stating to a third party that he wanted to kill the accuser.
