Southington woman, 83, fights off purse thief

WARREN — An 83-year-old Southington woman reported that a young man tried to steal her purse and knocked her down while she was walking toward the entrance of an office building Monday morning on Parkman Road Northwest.

The woman said she saw the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, standing in the parking lot as she got out of her car about 11:10 a.m. The office was at 2760 Parkman Road, near Southern Boulevard.

As the woman approached the sidewalk and entrance to the building, the man grabbed her from behind and briefly struggled with her while trying to get her purse.

The woman screamed and kept the man from getting her purse. He pushed her to the ground and fled on foot, Warren police said. The woman did not report having any injuries.
