GIRARD — A city neighborhood was hit hard by burglars who broke into 10 cars.
The break-ins happened in the overnight hours from Monday to Tuesday morning.
Police said they got a call around 4:20 a.m. about three juveniles running through the five-block area from Liberty Avenue to Morris Avenue and State Street to Highland Avenue. Police did not find the juveniles but suspect they were the burglars.
On East Wilson Avenue, change was stolen.
At five addresses on East Second Street, burglars took a purse, school books worth $500, $80 in cash, a calculator and a $300 iPod; $20; a cell phone and $10; a black case with someone’s paperwork and $30; and a $1,000 laptop and a $300 GPS unit.
From Morris Avenue, the burglars stole a crossbow.
On Crumlin Avenue, they took a $150 GPS unit and $20 in cash.
On East Howard Street, they took a wallet with $40 cash, credit cards and a driver’s license.
In some cases, cars were unlocked, but when they weren’t, the burglars broke windows to get in, police reports indicate.
