STRUTHERS — The city’s law director will resign at the end of the month.

Carol Clemente-Wagner, who has been at the post since 1993, sent her letter of resignation to Mayor Terry Stocker. He received it Friday, Stocker said.

Clemente-Wagner said she was acting prosecutor for the city in 1993 after Prosecutor James Lanzo became municipal court judge. She was appointed to the post in January 1994 and was elected from there on, she said.

Her current term expires Dec. 31, 2011.

Clemente-Wagner did not want to elaborate on why she is resigning, other than what she wrote in her letter.

“I am resigning for personal and family reasons,” she wrote.

“My husband and I have been discussing our options for the last several months, and we have decided that this decision is in the best interest of our family,” she continued.

She added that she will continue to practice law in Struthers and will help the administration and council if necessary.

Stocker said that he has notified David Betras, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party.

The Struthers Democratic Precinct committee members will nominate candidates and vote on a replacement. Stocker said he hopes a new law director is in place by the end of the month.
