Struthers police arrest 35 juveniles at party

STRUTHERS — Police said they arrested 35 juveniles at a party where there was underage drinking.

Police went to a house on Lakeshore Drive at 11:06 p.m. Saturday and found a large crowd of teenagers in a garage on the property. Police said there were numerous alcoholic drinks in the garage.

One teenager ran from police and was tackled and handcuffed, they said. He was released to his parents and taken for medical attention because of a cut over his eyebrow, they said. All the other teens were detained until their parents arrived to take them home.

When the homeowners arrived, they told police they did not give their daughter permission to have a party and they did not know who provided the alcohol. A Struthers detective will be contacting the juveniles this week, police said.

A 17-year-old girl told police around 10 p.m. Oct. 27 that an acquaintance she was walking with on Struthers-Liberty Road earlier that night pulled her into a stand of trees, where he raped her. Police said they expect to complete their investigation this week.

Teen wrecks stolen SUV

LIBERTY — A juvenile wrecked a stolen Chevrolet Blazer into a utility pole on Goldie Road during a police chase, Liberty police said. The Blazer was stolen Saturday morning from a Washington Avenue address in Girard. Along with Girard and Liberty police, Hubbard police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in the chase.

Liberty police said an officer spotted the Blazer speeding across Belmont Avenue. The 17-year-old driver ignored attempts by police to stop him, police said. They pursued him onto Northlawn Drive, then to Montrose Street. He ran three stop signs, police said.

The driver turned onto Belmont and ran a red light in front of Liberty Plaza, then ran another light at Goldie Road. On Goldie, he lost control on the wet road and spun 180 degrees, hitting the pole. He got out and ran. Police pursued him to a Euclid Avenue address, where he was caught. The teenager, from Youngstown, will be charged in Trumbull County Family Court, police said.

Police investigate case of SUV hit by bullets

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine how a sport-utility vehicle on the South Side was riddled with bullets but are getting no help from the owner or those who may have witnessed the shooting.

Officers received a call about gunfire in the 2000 block of South Avenue at 1:40 a.m. Monday. Officers discovered shattered glass in the street and a fresh fluid trail from an automobile.

Police learned that a green 1998 Ford Expedition had been shot multiple times through the rear window, gas tank and engine. The SUV was discovered in the 300 block of Hilton.

Police believe the owner of the vehicle was driving it at the time of the shooting, but no owner or witness called police. Police said no one spoke to officers at the scene.
