Absentee votes show trouble for county sales tax, Austintown bond issue
Early-voting results in Mahoning County don’t have good news for the county half-percent sales tax and the Austintown school bond issue.
The proposed renewal of the county sales tax for a continuous period has only 41.6 percent support of those who cast absentee ballots. The Austintown bond issue has the support of just 35.2 percent of early voters.
A renewal tax levy for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County was in good shape with 70.7 percent of the early voters in favor of it. The statewide casino gambling issue is close in the county among those who voted early, winning with 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent.
Other early-voting results show the two incumbent Boardman Township trustees are in third and fifth place, with Kathy Miller in third, and Robyn Gallitto, in fifth. Ed Aey is in fourth. Leading is former trustee Thomas Costello and Brad Calhoun. They are seven people running for the two seats.
David Ditzler, the incumbent Austintown trustee, has a comfortable lead among early voters for one of the two trustee seats up for election today. The other incumbent, Warren Bo Pritchard, is last among four candidates among early voters in a tight contest with two challengers.
