Volleyball and soccer teams head to regionals

Three volleyball teams and three soccer squads from the Valley will continue along the tournament trail this week in regional action.
The volleyball clubs from Salem, Springfield and Western Reserve won district championships this week to advance.
Salem will play in the Division II regional semifinals at Stow High School. The Quakers will play Walsh Jesuit in one semifinal on Thursday, followed by Mentor Lake Catholic against Medina Buckeye.
The winners return on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the championship and a trip to the state tournament November 12-14 in Dayton.
On Wednesday, Springfield will compete in the Div. III regional at Barberton High School.
The Tigers, who defeated Inter Tri-County League rival East Palestine in the district championship match, will play Gilmour Academy in the semifinals. That match will follow the first semifinal between Smithville and Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph.
That regional final is also scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
In Div. IV, Western Reserve — which defeated Mathews in four games to win the district championship — is matched against Newbury in a regional semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Twinsburg High School.
The winner of that match will return on Saturday at 2 p.m. to face either Cuyahoga Heights or Norwalk St. Paul.
Interestingly, Western Reserve’s football team will play St. Paul on Saturday in a playoff game.
Cardinal Mooney’s boys soccer team will play Marlington on Tuesday in a Div. II regional at Brecksville High School.
The winner advances to a Saturday night championship game against Walsh Jesuit or Mentor Lake Catholic.
On Wednesday, Bristol plays CVCA at Brunswick High School in a boys Div. III regional semifinal.
Also on Wednesday, Lakeview meets Chagrin Falls at 7 p.m. at Ravenna in a girls Div. II semifinal.
