Family members honor Phippses for 50th anniversary

CANFIELD — On Oct. 18, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Phipps Sr. of Canfield celebrated 50 years of marriage.

A dinner took place in their honor at Caff Capri in Boardman. In attendance were the couple’s children, Charles and Shelly Phipps and Kimberly Phipps Harbin and her fianc, Eric Schlegel, along with their grandchildren and close family members.

The former Julie Sackella and Charles Phipps were united in marriage at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown on Oct. 17, 1959.

Mr. Phipps was employed by United Engineering and retired from General Motors in 2006. Mrs. Phipps worked as a beautician in her own salon for years.

The couple both spent years volunteering in the Mahoning County 4-H program.

The couple have six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, and look forward to the arrival of a great-grandson in January. They will enjoy a cruise at a later date.
