Choffin school reopens
YOUNGSTOWN — Choffin Career and Technical Center is reopening today after repairs were made to the electrical system. The East Wood Street school had been closed since Wednesday morning.
Tony DeNiro, assistant superintendent of school business affairs, said Sunday that repairs had been completed, and the school would open for normal operations.
The electrical service in the school shut down after an outage in an electrical-equipment room in the basement caused smoke and a loss of electrical service.
Project Feed the Hungry
BOARDMAN — WellnessOne, 843 Boardman-Canfield Road, will be hosting a Project Feed the Hungry event.
Starting next Monday and lasting through Nov. 13, in exchange for two bags of nonperishable food items, Dr. James Mussler will offer new patients a consultation and X-rays for free.
Time and space are limited, so appointments should be requested today by calling (330) 758-9567.
All food and proceeds will be donated to God’s Warehouse, New Life Assembly of God church’s food pantry.
Candlelight vigil
WARREN — L.O.S.S. (Loving Outreach Surviving Suicide) and S.O.S. (Survivors of Suicide) will have their 11th annual candlelight vigil in remembrance of loved ones at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at St. Pius X Church, 1401 Montcrest NW.
Vigil participants are urged to bring a photo of their loved one.

Store robbery reported
YOUNGSTOWN — Employees of the Shoe Warehouse on East Midlothian Boulevard reported a robbery at 6:50 p.m. Friday.
Employees told police a man in a hooded sweat shirt reached over the counter into the cash register and grabbed a stack of $20 bills, then fled the store. Employees chased him north on Zedaker Road but lost him, they said.
There were no surveillance cameras in the store and no other witnesses, police said.
Police searched the area with a police dog but did not find the robber.
Conservation awards
CANFIELD — Harold Campbell of Milton Township was recently re-elected and Joseph Toporcer Sr. of Ellsworth Township was elected to a three-year term on the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District’s board of directors at the district’s 58th annual meeting at Canfield Fairgrounds.
The conservation cooperator-of-the-year award was presented to John Kulifay, owner of Sweet Nectar Apiary in Poland, who has installed 1,100 feet of grassed waterways to improve drainage and control soil erosion on his property.
The individual volunteer- of-the-year award went to Charlotte Agustin of Shadow Box Consultants, Webmaster of the Mahoning Valley AgriGuide Web site.
The Mahoning Valley Landscape and Nursery Association received the organization volunteer award for donating its time and talent to install the rain garden for flood control at SWCD’s Industrial Road headquarters.
