The Vindicator/Robert K. Yosay HELPING OTHERS: For years, the Monday Musical Club has been organizing collection events to benefit the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Some of those involved in the effort are, left to right, Monday Musical board members Richard Esposito, president; Walter DeBald; and Joan Gallitto, secretary; and Don Rosa, Rescue Mission board president.

YOUNGSTOWN — Board members of the Monday Musical Club, which is marking its 113th year, are preparing for another collection event to benefit the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

The second concert of the 2009-10 season will be a performance by the Lovin’ Spoonful at 8 p.m. Nov. 12 at Stambaugh Auditorium. Concertgoers will be greeted by Rescue Mission board members and staff.

The collection will be taken before the concert. All funds collected go directly to the mission for its efforts to help those who have nowhere else to turn.

Your donation at this event will make the holidays a bit brighter for those people in need. Monday Musical has collected more than $35,000 over the years for this worthy cause.

The Lovin’ Spoonful turned out such hits as “Do You Believe in Magic?”, “You Didn’t Have to be So Nice,” “Daydream,” “Summer in the City,” and “Nashville Cats,” among others. The band’s unique, cheery, folksy sounds made it one of the most popular groups of the mid-1960s.

Tickets are still available for this concert and may be obtained by calling the MMC office at (330) 743-2717. Ticket prices are $35 and $40. Buffet dinners are also offered before the concert for a small additional cost.
