Prescription-drug assistance available in Lawrence, Mercer

By Mary Grzebieniak

NEW CASTLE, Pa. —Help is available for Lawrence County residents who need prescription drugs that are not covered by insurance.

Lawrence County commissioners reminded residents at their meeting Thursday that the county participates in a prescription discount program through its membership in the National Association of Counties.

County Administrator Jim Gagliano said participation in the program since its inception in 2006 has dwindled to about 50 counties from a one-time high of 75. Mercer County also participates

The card is available to any county resident from the county commissioners’ office at the Lawrence County Government Center and simply has to be presented at the time of purchase at any retail pharmacy. NACo says it provides an average 20 percent savings on prescription medicines that are not covered by any other plan.

The plan can be used by those who have no prescription insurance as well as those who want prescription drugs that are not covered by their insurance company’s formulary, Gagliano said.

NaCo states the card is accepted at 90 percent of pharmacies nationwide. There is no enrollment form or membership fee.
