TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Redshirt freshman quarterback Paul McIntosh rushed for two touchdowns in his first start to pace Southern Illinois. McIntosh replaced Chris Dieker, who is expected to miss six weeks with a broken collarbone. McIntosh, a transfer from Army, ran it in twice from 2 yards out. He also completed 15 of 22 passes for 159 yards. Deji Karim rushed 15 times for 87 yards and a touchdown in SIU’s seventh straight victory. The Salukis (7-1, 6-0 Missouri Valley) also scored on Kyle Dougherty’s field goal, a blocked punt and a safety. Antoine Brown ran 18 times for 36 yards for the Sycamores (1-8, 1-5). Southern Illinois outgained Indiana State 360 yards to 90.
Illinois State 24, Missouri State 14
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Matt Brown passed for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead Illinois State. Browns second touchdown came on a 38-yard pass to Brandon Venson with no time left in the first half, giving the Redbirds (4-4, 3-2 Missouri Valley) a 21-14 lead. The pass was tipped by players on both teams before it was picked out of the air by Venson. Earlier, Illinois State scored on a 1-yard run by Geno Blow and a 15-yard pass from Brown to Cody White. Cody Kirby threw a pair of touchdown passes for Missouri State (5-4, 3-3), but the Bears were unable to score in the second half. The only scoring after halftime came on Zach Kutch’s 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Illinois State.
North Dakota State 14, Western Illinois 7
MACOMB, Ill. — Pat Paschall scored on a 24-yard run with 3:10 left to lead North Dakota State. The touchdown, Paschall’s second of the game, came after Western Illinois’ Lito Senatus had caught a 9-yard pass from Wil Lunt to tie the game with 11:13 to go. Paschall also scored on a 17-yard run in the first quarter that was set up by Shamen Washington’s 65-yard return of the opening kickoff. Paschall rushed 19 times for 111 yards for North Dakota State (2-7, 1-5 Missouri Valley). Dre Gibbs led the Leathernecks (1-7, 0-5) with 109 yards on 24 carries. Jose Mohler was 7 of 15 for 90 yards the Bison. Lunt went 11 of 19 for 113 yards and an interception in the end zone that killed a first-quarter drive. Western Illinois lost three fumbles in wet, muddy conditions.
