Mount Union 56, John Carroll 7

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Top ranked Mount Union posted a win in its final road trip of the regular season with a 56-7 Ohio Athletic Conference victory.

Mount Union (8-0, 7-0 OAC), extends the nation’s longest win streak to 23 games and is alone in first place in the OAC as Marietta upset No. 7 Otterbein, 25-22. The Raiders can clinch the OAC title next week with a win over Otterbein next Saturday.

Senior quarterback Kurt Rocco had an efficient day as the nation’s top rated passer went 26-of-32 for 359 yards and four touchdown passes.

Rocco hit eight different receivers led by seniors in Cecil Shorts, who had eight catches for 88 yards and two scores, while Vince Petruziello had a season-best six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Terrance Morring ran for 101 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns for his third straight and fourth 100 yard rushing game of the season.

The Mount Union defense was equally impressive holding the Blue Streaks to 177 yards.

Thiel 38, Saint Vincent 14

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Thiel had its all-around best game of the season.

The Tomcats established new season highs in passing yards (373), total yards (442), points scored, first downs (24), and turnovers caused (seven). The Bearcats, on the other hand, limp into their bye week at 0-9.

Freshman WR Tyler Dejong (Columbiana HS) scored his first- and second-career touchdowns.

Sophomore John Madeline (Hubbard HS) booted a 33-yard field goal to open the scoring in the first quarter. RB Ross Gargano (Kennedy Catholic) hauled in a 12-yard TD pass in Thiel’s 28-point second quarter.

Slippery Rock 47, Lock Haven 6

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Akeem Satterfield rushed for 107 yards and two TDs as The Rock (6-4 overall, 3-4 PSAC-West) snapped a three-game losing streak.

SRU amassed 316 yards in total offense, while Lock Haven finished the game with minus-4 yards.

Lock Haven (0-9, 0-7) suffered its 20th consecutive loss.

The Rock defense forced Lock Haven into 11 fumbles, four of which were recovered by SRU, and also blocked three punts and intercepted a pass.

Ohio Wesleyan 38, Hiram 6

HIRAM — Mike Bashioum had four touchdowns via run for Ohio Wesleyan. (2-6, 2-3).

Hiram had 163 passing yards to 5 for Ohio Wesleyan, but, on the ground, OWU gained 278 yards to Hiram’s -17.

Chris Austin’s 4-yard run with 1:23 remaining was the lone score for the Terriers (0-8, 0-5).

Hiram freshman linebacker Jarrod Lewis (Springfield Local HS) blocked a point-after kick in the first half.

Grove City 35, Waynesburg 24

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City (3-5, 2-2 PAC) forced four turnovers, helping lift the Wolverines over Waynesburg (4-4, 1-3 PAC).

Grove City compiled 23 first downs and 367 total yards.

The Wolverines caused a turnover on Waynesburg’s opening possession of the second half and sophomore linebacker Jason Ferguson (Mineral Ridge HS) scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the 16.

Four plays later, Grove City scored. Junior kicker Craig Bicehouse (Slippery Rock HS) kicked the fourth of his five extra points to give Grove City a 28-3 lead.

The Wolverines put the game away with a 90-yard drive that consumed over five minutes. Senior quarterback Andrew DiDonato’s 23-yard TD put the Wolverines up 35-17. On the drive, DiDonato fired an 18-yard completion to sophomore wide receiver Luke O’Hara (Shenango HS).

Geneva 54, Bethany 21

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Sophomore Eric Walker tied a school-record with his 10th rushing touchdown of the season, but Bethany could not overcome 33 second-quarter points by Geneva (7-1).

The Bethany offense finished with 351 yards, with 300 coming through the air, while Bethany freshman Kyle Arrington made eight tackles.
