Visit from Santa
AUSTINTOWN — Santa Claus is coming to town to help celebrate the fight against cancer. Santa will make a guest appearance at Austintown Fitch High School’s Relay for Life. He will be escorted to the event by the Austintown Fire Department, instead of his sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.
The 24-hour event begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the high school track.
Other events scheduled include a “Not So Fashionable Fashion Show” at noon Saturday with guest models U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, and state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Canfield, D-33rd; and a community breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Donations are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 2-5.
For more information, contact Francesca Kostek at (888) 227-6446, ext. 2214, or visit www.relayforlife.org/austintown.

Event for families
ROGERS — A free event to help bring families together will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 at Beaver Creek State Park. This year, artist Dave McCamon has contributed a drawing that will be raffled to benefit the program. The program, “Exploring the Outdoors With Your Family Because Time Together Counts” first took place in 2008 to give families a place to go. The program was created by the Columbiana County Conservation Partners, the park, the county’s Department of Job & Family Services, and the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County. There will be crafts, canoeing, hikes, nature and recycling programs and displays by safety forces.
McCamon’s drawing is of one of the old metal bridges in the park that have been restored through the efforts of Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson.
A $5 raffle ticket will be available at the chambers of commerce in Salem, Calcutta and East Liverpool.
