Streetscape 2009 | What people say

Saturday’s “We Grow Hope” event in downtown Youngstown brought out people of all ages who are passionate about the city. The 12th annual visual improvement project is part of Youngstown CityScape, a nonprofit revitalization group. Here’s what a few of the participants had to say:

“This is about everyone working together doing everything right.”

— Sharon Letson, Youngstown CityScape executive director

“These are the people who care about this city.”

— Hanna Kassis, campaign staffer for Rep. Tim Ryan

“I love downtown Pittsburgh, but I consider Youngstown home.”

— Nick Dubos of Pittsburgh, who grew up in the Youngstown area and returned for the event

“It’s a good cause. I like gardening, and I like Youngstown.”

— Megan Reed, higher-education account executive for Turning Technologies

“It takes a lot of dedication and teamwork.”

— Christopher Colella, 12, of Hubbard, who was working alongside his dad, Chris Colella

“This is a true effort of love.”

— Pete Asimakopoulos, CityScape board president; First National Bank executive vice president of small-business banking
