BOARDMAN — Paula Jakubek was installed as the new president of the Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance on May 19 at a luncheon meeting at Springfield Grille.

Presiding over the installation was Carol Sankovic, a past president of the Medical Alliance in 2005. The other officers installed were Cassi Calderon, president-elect; Tammy Engle, treasurer; Shelly Barton, recording secretary; and Renea Sharf, corresponding secretary.

During the meeting, a check for $5,700 was presented to JoAnn Stock, director of development at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, for the Garden of Hope Campaign from Lynee Aiad Toss, immediate past president of the alliance. The funds were proceeds from the alliance’s charity fashion show on Feb. 20. Eight past presidents were present and honored for their contributions to the alliance.

Jakubek is a certified registered nurse anesthetist for Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates. She has been a member of the alliance since 2003. She has chaired the Doctor’s Day blood drive for three years. She is an active member of the Junior League of Youngstown and was on the planning committee for the 2007 Angel Ball. Jakubek has been a member of the Canfield PTO for many years. She was a co-leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and help them receive the Gold Award, the highest in Girl Scouting.

Jakubek lives in Canfield with her husband, Dr. John Jakubek, and their two children, Joy and John Jay. Plans for the year include charitable activities of the Akron Children’s Hospital Garden of Hope. The Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of public health and promotion of health education while supporting the local Medical Society.
