Seventh-graders at Girard Junior/Senior High School participated in a model roller coaster project to fulfill a state standard in science. Jennifer Nicholas, seventh-grade teacher, named these winners:

kSpeed: Candyland team of Marina Samuels, 12, and Tayler Johnson and KyLee Johnson, both 13. The marble moved on the coaster, decorated with various kinds of penny candy, at 219 centimeters per second. As a bonus, the girls gave out candy.

kHighest hill: Rainbow Ride team of Molly Malito, Mallorie Molek and Taylor Davidson, all 13. One hill was 110 centimeters.

kMost duct tape: Nuclear Force team of Kyle Walsh, 14, and Zane Chase and Sierra Gamble, both 13. “We don’t know how we used so much,” Kyle said.
