Salcedo, Brocker, Fredericka win then bow out


COLUMBUS — Boardman’s Robert Salcedo, Poland’s Ben Brocker and Warren JFK’s Michael Fredericka each won one match then lost in the state tennis tournament on Friday at Ohio State University.

In Division I singles, Salcedo opened state play with a win over Powell Olentangy Liberty’s Arren Carter. The scores were 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.

In the second round, Salcedo was defeated by West Chester Lakota West’s Wyatt Lippert, 6-3, 6-0.

In Div. II singles, Brocker opened with a win over Gahanna Academy’s John Hendrix. The scores were 7-6 (7-50, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2.

In the second round, Cincinnati Country Day’s Joey Fritz defeated Brocker by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

Fredericka opened state play by defeating Gahanna Columbus Academy’s Chad Buchanan by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

Fredericka then lost to Elida’s Evan Neuman by the scores of 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4.

In the state semifinals today, Ryan Bandy of Cin. St. Xavier will play Lippert, and Tommy Marx of Shaker Heights will play Peter Kobelt of New Albany in the Div. I singles.

In Div. II singles, Ian Wagner of Columbus Wellington will play Mark Goldberg of Beachwood, and Fritz of will meet Neuman.

In Div. I doubles, teams from Cin. St. Xavier, Toledo St. John’s Jesuit, Columbus Bishop Watterson and Upper Arlington have advanced to the semifinals.

In Div. II doubles, teams from Gahanna Columbus Academy, Cin. Wyoming, CVCA and University School are in the semifinals.
