Erie man to stand trial in death of daughter

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A northwestern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the death of his 5-month-old daughter.

Police say 24-year-old Vincent Davis of Erie became enraged in February when his family’s Jack Russell terrier urinated and defecated on the floor.

Police say he fatally kicked the dog, then shook his daughter when she began to cry.

Savonnia Davis died at a hospital two days later.

At a preliminary hearing Friday, Davis was ordered to stand trial on the felony charges of homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was also ordered to court on the misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and cruelty to animals.

At his arraignment, Davis said his daughter’s death was an accident.
