Ohio treasurer to be speaker at agency meeting

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Kevin Boyce, Ohio treasurer, will be the keynote speaker at the Associated Neighborhood Centers’ McGuffey Center 2009 annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 5 at the banquet facilities on Jacobs Road.

Gov. Ted Strickland named Boyce, 37, to replace Treasurer Richard Cordray, who won election Nov. 4 as Ohio attorney general. Boyce assumed office in early January.

After graduating from the University of Toledo, Boyce was recruited as youth-program coordinator for the city of Toledo and later became a legislative aide. Since 1997, he has served as executive director for the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, chief of staff for the Ohio House of Representatives and a member of Columbus City Council.

The June 5 presentation will be Boyce’s first visit to the McGuffey Center. Associated Neighborhood Centers, a private, nonprofit social-service organization, is an outgrowth of the Allied Council of Youngstown formed in 1919. The agency operates McGuffey Center, a community center situated on the East Side.

Associated Neighborhood Centers provides services for the educational, physical and personal economic development of individuals through programs of social development and family support.

The annual meeting is a yearly fund-raising and recognition service at the McGuffey Center.
