Kent-Trumbull theater to hold acting classes

CHAMPION — Kent State-Trumbull theater and Summer Stock 32 will hold youth acting classes every Monday for eight weeks during June and July. The classes are available for students age 7-17. Classes includes improvisation, basic acting technique and theater games. Each class runs one hour and will be taught by Dana M. Warren. Cost is $40, and enrollment is limited to 20. Comedian Mike Epps coming to Covelli Centre

YOUNGSTOWN — Comedian-actor Mike Epps, who appeared in the 2008 film “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins,” will perform at 8 p.m. July 10 at Covelli Centre. Tickets range from $31.50 to $51.50 and are on sale through Ticketmaster, select Giant Eagle and Macy’s outlets, the arena box office, or by calling 866-448-7849.

Epps began his career as a stand-up comedian before finding film success. In addition to “Roscoe Jenkins,” which also starred Martin Lawrence and Cedric the Entertainer, Epps was also in the 2008 release “The Grand” and this year’s “Next Day Air.”

Epps is best known for his role as Day-Day opposite Ice Cube in the “Next Friday” series. He also had roles in “All About the Benjamins,” “How High,” “The Fighting Temptations” and the “The Honeymooners.”

Group offers tour of historic Wick Park

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a free walking tour of Wick Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 6. Participants will meet at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St.

The one-mile walk will include tales about some of the most affluent families in Youngstown during the era of industrialization and their estates, and the cultural institutions that surround the park. Afterward, participants can view the final design plans for the Wick Park Revitalization Project, a multi-million dollar effort to update and improve the park.

Hoyt issues call for artists

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts is seeking submissions for its 2009 Mid Atlantic Juried Exhibition. Deadline is June 12. The juror is Virginia M.
